What Can I Expect My First Week of Dental Assistant School?
Are you about to begin dental assistant school? You’re embarking on an exciting journey. Becoming a dental assistant is a rewarding career. You get to help patients feel comfortable in the exam chair and assist the dental hygienist and dentist as they provide care.
The dental assistant program will prepare you for your career as a dental assistant. But what will it be like? Today we’re discussing what you can expect during your first week of dental assistant school.
Information
You’ll be introduced to your dental school instructors. You’ll learn a little about them and their dental and teaching credentials. You’ll also be provided with a syllabus that contains all the information you need for the course.
A Fast Pace
The orientation won’t last for very long. Dental assistant school is all about hands-on learning, and with many programs only being ten weeks long, it’s essential to dive right in. This is great since it will allow you to graduate faster and start your career!
Hands-On Learning
There will, of course, be some instruction involved. But you won’t spend hours a day in a classroom, learning vocabulary terms and correct ways of performing procedures. You will learn all of that but through a more hands-on experience.
You’ll watch demonstrations of how to do something before being expected to practice on your own. At first, you might feel nervous about practicing, but you’ll quickly become comfortable with this learning style. It will truly prepare you for your career.
Immersive Learning
Not only will your learning be hands-on, but it will be immersive. There’s a lot to cover in a short period. You’ll learn how to perform one dental assistant duty, and then you’ll quickly move on to the next one.
Rest, Eat, and Drink Water
Getting used to something new can be tiring, even if it’s something you enjoy! You’ll likely be tired, especially during your first week. You’ll be adjusting to the courseload and learning style while getting used to interacting and working with your classmates and instructors.
We recommend getting plenty of sleep each night, eating balanced meals, and drinking lots of water. This will help you keep your energy levels up and get through each day!
